The steps

You don't have to have everything figured out before your first appointment. The consultation is there to help you understand your options.

1. Consult a doctor

The first step is to see a doctor to confirm your pregnancy and discuss your options. During this consultation, the doctor will assess how far along you are and check on your health. This will help determine which abortion method is suitable for you.

2. Attend mandatory counselling

In Singapore, counselling is a required part of the process before an abortion can take place. This is an opportunity to talk through your decision and make sure you have the information and support you need.

3. Observe the 48-hour cooling-off period

After your counselling session, there is a mandatory 48-hour waiting period before you can proceed with the abortion. This time is built into the process to give you space to reflect on your decision.

4. The procedure

Together with your doctor, you'll discuss which method is most appropriate for your situation. The options available depend on how far along you are and your overall health.
